Southern California

Last Updated Jul 2, 2009

The ACSI Student Activities Program seeks to encourage and inspire students toward a standard of excellence in leadership, communication, and performance, by enhancing the academic and fine arts education program of the Christian school. It provides opportunity for the practical application and development of skills necessary for confident Christian leadership.

Every activity is planned to impact the educational and spiritual growth of each student, encouraging them to be a testimony to the gospel of Jesus Christ. Each event also seeks to provide opportunity for Christian fellowship and positive interaction between students and teachers of participating schools.

High School Film Festival

The purpose of the ACSI High School Film Festival is to provide Christian high school students with the opportunity to explore cinematic storytelling. Students will create films that reflect the voice and vision of the filmmaker and his/her collaborators.

57901—Costa Mesa
Date: April 24, 2010, 3 PM–5 PM
Grades: 9–12

Event Location: Vanguard University
55 Fair Drive
Costa Mesa, CA 92626

Phone: 714.256.1287 ext. 103

Since this film festival is for the expression of Christ honoring films, they are expected to reflect the guidelines of Philippians 4:8, "...whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whtaever is admirable–if anything is excellent or praiseworthy–think about such things."

Films must be:

  • student directed, produced, and edited
  • 3 to 5 minutes in length
  • an original concept or idea
  • appropriate content and language
  • follow traditional storytelling elements (i.e. plot, character, setting)
  • engage a biblical worldview to resolve the story conflict or tension

Films are sent to the regional office by Vanguard’s film committee for review and scoring, using the film rubric. Winning films qualify for presentation at the Film Festival on April 18, held at Vanguard University, and will include viewing of selected films, awards presentation, and open house of Vanguard’s Communications Department. Specific event guidelines can be found in the Coordinator's Handbook found below.

Spelling Bee Handbook

Facility Requirements for the ACSI Elementary Spelling Bee

  1. Opening Assembly and Awards Assembly Church Sanctuary or Gymnasium, seating 250–300. (Optimal, but not required. The spelling bee can be conducted without an opening assembly, with awards being presented in the presentation rooms.)
  2. Judges Training This room needs to be large enough to hold 25-40 judges for the training meeting that is held before the spelling bee. Each school will send up to five workers. Refreshments are often served. Some host schools serve a light luncheon during this meeting (optional, not required).
  3. Presentation Rooms Eight classrooms are needed (or seven classrooms and an auditorium). Depending on the number of schools registered, normally one classroom per grade level is sufficient. Schools can bring one child per classroom for each grade level.
  4. Refreshment Area Serving refreshments for volunteers or students is optional.
  5. Time for Event The bee can be conducted in a half-day event starting in the morning or early afternoon. Some schools conduct the bee for first–fourth grades on one day, and for fifth–eighth grades on another.
