Purpose

The ACSI Student Activities Program seeks to encourage and inspire students toward a standard of excellence in leadership, communication, and performance by enhancing the academic and fine arts education program of the Christian school. It provides opportunity for the practical application and development of skills necessary for confident Christian leadership.

Goal

Each activity is planned to impact the educational and spiritual growth of each student, encouraging them to be a testimony to the gospel of Jesus Christ. Each event also seeks to provide opportunity for Christian fellowship and positive interaction between students and teachers of participating schools.

Southeast Activity Participation Manual

Host sites will receive their registration by email on July 25, 2011. Registration for all other member schools will begin on August 1, 2011.

  • July 23–31, 2011, Host sites registration begins
  • August 1–October 14, 2011, Early Registration for member schools for $40.00 per event.
  • October 15–November 4, 2011, Late Registration for member schools for $80.00 per event.
  • November 4 and after, Final Registration for member schools for $100.00 per event.

Hosting

ACSI Southeast provides the student activities program as a service to member schools, but we need your help in providing that service. We can provide everything you need to run an event, but we need host sites and people to chair the events. Volunteers are accepted March thru June 30. Check your school calendar; and see if you have a teacher’s work day or a half day of school that might work. Then fill out the form and fax to the ACSI Southeast Regional Office.
We understand that the work you do for the events can be time consuming and we appreciate your willingness to provide events for students in your school and local area. We currently provide:

  1. Training materials and sample resources for each event
  2. Reimbursement for event related expenses
  3. A stipend to the chairperson
  4. A waiver for the registration fee and participation fees for the event you host
  5. A way for the chairperson to earn a CEU for their work.
  6. Host Only registration the last week in July

Complete the Master Calendar Form and return to the southeast regional office. Without these additional events, many schools will find themselves without any local events.

Preparing

Participants are to read the chairman and coordinator handbooks. Please follow the national handbooks for all events except Music Festival, Band Festival, and Piano Festival as these are run differently in each region. All regionally specific information for each event will be listed in the Participation Manual and the event letter for each event. Unless otherwise specified, each individual Student Activity has a specific handbook and forms available. Please note that the handbooks are password protected, and your school must have registered and received the password from your Regional Office. Below are documents and forms that are specific to the Southeast Region. These are to be used in addition to the ACSI Student Activities Handbooks and Forms.

New Event!  Desktop Publishing Festival

The purpose of the ACSI Desktop Publishing Festival is to provide Christian School students with the opportunity to explore digital publishing that reflects the voice and vision of the student. Since this student event is for the expression of Christ honoring publications, they are expected to reflect the guidelines of Philippians 4:8..."whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable, if anything is excellent or praiseworthy,think about such things".

2011–12 Southeast Regional Desktop Publishing Festival and
Voting for People's Choice Award

Schools will submit original pieces to the festival where three qualified judges in the fields of graphics and printing will evalute and rate them based on set criteria. You will have a chance  to view and vote on the piece you feel is the best. The piece receiving the most votes will earn the People's Choice Award.

â–ºCongratulations to Ms. Paige Thompson of Bethesda Christian Academy, Durham, NC for her winning brochure. With 52% of the vote, she wins the very first ACSI Desktop Publishing People's Choice Award.

Geography Bee

What a success! After three years of hosting district geography bees, the southeast region held the first annual Southeast Regional Geography Bee on March 26, 2011 in Atlanta, GA. Seventeen students competed in the event through multiple choice, video, and map questions. The schools and student involved last year had a wonderful time and can't wait to compete again! Thank you to all who participated!

News of Interest

New! We are now offering a Host Appreciation Program. One year hosts receive a waiver on their registration and participation fees for the event they host. At that point, the school can decide to become a Three Year Host and in return they receive a waiver of all district registration fees in addition to their participation fees being waived for the event they host. For both levels, this could mean a savings of hundreds of dollars!

 If a school hosts one year, they have the opportunity to decide whether or not they want to commit to the 3-year program. They host year one with regular one year waivers in place and then receive the additional district registration waivers in years two, three, and four. We would hold onto your form for a year until you decide whether or not to enter into the 3-year program and at that point, we would have you add your 2013–15 dates to the existing form.

Beginning fall of 2011, no registration will be accepted with less than eight weeks prior to an event. Also changing is the no-show policy. Previously the cut-off was the four week mark, but is now eight weeks. Schools must notify ACSI of their need to drop out eight weeks prior to the event. After that point, ACSI has already ordered awards and paid for other needs based on your attendance and the no-show fee of $80–$200 will apply. All registrations must be made through the southeast regional office.

Math League

The Math League competition is held between the first Monday of March and the second Friday of April. The results need to be in to the regional office by the second Friday of April. The national test is administered and completed by the first Friday of May.

Southeast Regional Spelling Bee

The Southeast Regional Spelling Bee is always held in the spring in Atlanta, GA. It is open to the top four winners from each District 5–8 bee in the region. At the bee, students in 5th–8th grade spell together until the top four winners are determined. Those four are eligible to go on to the National Spelling Bee always held in May in Washington, DC.

This event will be held on March 24, 2012 at the Sheraton at the Atlanta Airport

Southeast Regional Geography Bee

The Southeast Regional Geography Bee is always held in the spring in Atlanta, GA. It is open to the top four winners from grades 6, 7, and 8 at each district bee in the region. At the bee, students in 6th–8th grade quiz together until the top four winners are determined and awarded.

This event will be held on March 24, 2012 at the Sheraton at the Atlanta Airport.
