â–ºTopic Description

Challenges for Canadian Faith-based Independent Schools in the Next Decade
Provinces in Canada have granted freedom to parents in educating their children in schools of their choice. In most provinces, there is some level of funding that is provided by the government to independent schools that meet specific criteria. Some provinces have withdrawn funding or placed restrictions on funding eligibility. As important as funding is for faith-based schools, it is not the primary challenge to sustainability in the coming decade.

The three workshop sessions will explore how moral values, secularism, apathy, failure to adjust to changes in the culture and a lack of ethnic integration can lead to a decline in school enrolment and the overall success of a faith-based school. How can schools maintain their relevance within our changing culture in Canada?
