Professional Development Day: Island

Last Updated Jan 9, 2012

In keeping with our mission to enable Christian educators to effectively prepare students for life, ACSI offers professional development days specifically designed to benefit teachers and administrators within our member schools. It is also a good opportunity to meet with colleagues and continue to build a support network for your school.

Theme: Fully Prepared

But that doesn't mean you should all look and speak and act the same. Out of the generosity of Christ, each of us is given his own gift...to train Christ's followers in skilled servant work, working within Christ's body, the church. Ephesians 4:7, 12 (The Message)

Topic Description

We are all characters in God’s ‘story’. In a world full of ‘experts’, Christian schools can play an important part in the development of strong Christian leaders by drawing on the available educational expertise and meshing it with solid biblical principles providing a wonderful venue for students to explore and discover who they are in God’s eyes and what role they have to play in His story. Some areas we will address:

Assessment for Learning
What it is all about and how it can ‘partner’ with assessment of learning; what difference it can make in our schools within the context of Christian education; some practical ways to get started

Developing a Writing Program Using Assessment for Learning Strategies
Establishing structure in writing; using the 6 + 1 Writing Traits to support assessment practices; developing peer assessment practices

Using Performance Tasks for Assessment
What a performance task is; setting the criteria; developing assessment rubrics; using peer assessment as a learning tool
