Legal Legislative

ACSI members have come to highly value ACSI’s Legal Legislative Department, through which we track issues that affect schools nationwide and serve individual schools.

Through ACSI headquarters in Colorado, we offer free administrative and human-resources consultation for members. We also track legislation for all 50 states and generate reports for schools on each. Members receive a tri-annual newsletter, Legal Legislative Update, where we address issues such as board governance, employment issues, government funding, and much more.

Additionally, ACSI has a legal defense fund that our staff use to get involved in legal issues that affect member schools (for example, school choice). Member school staff may also apply for aid from this fund if their schools face legal issues.

We also offer a Legal Defense Reimbursement Program through which members may be reimbursed for legal defense costs arising out of employment-related disputes and student-related lawsuits. (Participation requires paying an annual fee.)

Through our government affairs office in Washington, D.C., we monitor current information on:

  • pending congressional legislation
  • education reform
  • religious freedom
  • education trends
  • higher education
