Exemplary School Program

Submission Categories for the Exemplary School Program (K–12)

  • Academic Program Enrichment
    • Enriches the curricular or co-curricular program.
    • Unique, not something purchased to be implemented.
    • Classes or courses that are typical for a school’s instructional program will not be considered.
    • A program that describes something every school should be doing, i.e. curriculum mapping, will not be considered. However, a unique extension/application of curriculum mapping might be considered.
  • Spiritual Life Enrichment
    • Unique and innovative programs that focus primarily on spiritual formation in the lives of students, i.e. unique spiritual emphases or discipleship programs.
    • Programs that offer authentic opportunities for students to develop their faith life.
    • Bible classes in a school’s instructional program will not be considered.
  • Community Outreach/Service
    • Authentic programs to reach out into the communities of the school, i.e. service learning opportunities for students and faculty.
    • Programs that connect academics with meeting real needs in the community.
    • Something more than the typical mission trip or community service program.
  • Faculty/Staff Development
    • Unique and imaginative programs to provide for the intentional and systematic professional development of the faculty/staff.
    • Something that is reflective of a long-term commitment to the nurture and professional well-being of faculty/staff.

Criteria: Evaluation/Selection of an Exemplary School Program (K–12)

  • Unique/Innovative/Cutting Edge—A program that:
    • Is above and beyond what is typically found in a school
    • Is representative of out-of-the-box thinking
    • Is evidence of a paradigm shift in how or what can be done in a school
    • Has been originally developed by your school or is a highly innovative implementation of someone else’s idea/program
  • Measurable—The impact of the program:
    • Can be measured quantifiably or qualitatively
    • Is clearly aligned with the program objective
    • Produces results that can be determined apart from anecdotal or circumstantial evidence
  • School Community Involvement—A program that:
    • Provides opportunity for widespread involvement by the school community including students, faculty/staff, and parents
    • Has an impact beyond the classroom to the school as a whole or to the local community and beyond
  • Transferable—Since exemplary means worthy of imitation, a program that:
    • Can, with little or no adjustment, be imitated by other Christian schools
