Life-Changing Leadership

Last Updated Jun 19, 2009

Presenter: Derek Keenan

Christian school leaders must develop, hone, and reprioritize several skills to be effective in producing a relevant and high-performing teaching and learning community. The people we are leading today differ significantly from those of the past and require refocused and revised leadership strategies and skills.

Today we are leading teachers and staff members who see themselves as knowledge workers, interactives, collaborators, and classroom leaders. When they are affirmed and empowered in their roles these people commit more quickly and deeply, bringing energy, partnership, and collaboration to their work, and a willingness to share in the aspirations of their leaders and organization. They become staff members who are willing to paddle the boat as hard as their leaders do.

In these sessions we will define the skills and strategies needed for leading today’s staff members, beginning with taking yourself forward as a leader, taking others forward as empowered partners, who then will take the organization forward.

Who should attend? School leaders

Session Descriptions:

Life-Changing Leadership

  • Taking Yourself Forward:
Effective organizational leadership begins with self-leadership, and self-leadership begins with reflection. In this session, you will get an overview of a biblical as well as practical process of taking yourself forward.
  • Taking Others Forward:
The true measure of leadership, according to Peter Drucker, is whether those around you are doing the right things in the right way. No longer can leaders dictate the right things and the right way and then automatically get a right response. In this session, you will look at the means and methods for taking others forward.

  • Taking the School Forward:
The gift of leadership is bestowed on people to instigate change in the situation in which God has placed them. This session will highlight the key elements of intentional and positive school change—the kind of change ensuring that years down the road people will observe what God has done and say, It is marvelous in our eyes (Psalm 118:23, NIV).
