Greetings! My name is Philip Hills and I am the Regional Director for ACSI Western Canada.
Five summer’s ago I took a very long road trip with my wife and four children, which covered almost every state in Western America. We were away for 23 days, 11 of which were spent on the road driving. During that time my family had the privilege of seeing some of the most beautiful places in the world. The destinations always made the long trips worthwhile. The best experiences were when we took routes we were not familiar with and would end up in places that featured sights we had not planned on seeing. One particular day we were heading from Moab, Utah to the Grand Canyon. We choose what appeared to be the shortest route. It took us past spectacular buttes and through picture perfect landscapes. The trip to the Grand Canyon was long and challenging at times, but the sites along the way made it worthwhile and the view at the end of the road evaporated all our reservations about the long drive.
Your students will be moving forward in their education this year. The journey will feature some great moments, we hope, but will also involve periods of hard work and persistent effort. Students who have a strong sense of where they are going and how they will get there will get the most out of the year. Research shows that when people are involved in meaningful activity with good outcomes they will be more motivated to do it.
ACSI Western Canada is focused on serving others. The staff desires to help you learn to more effectively develop and use your gifts to serve the world, others and God. In turn, you will serve your students and their families effectively and with eternal consequences. We believe strongly that we were made to serve and will only be truly satisfied in a life that is contributing effectively to making this world a better place. Our goal is to be a part of the great work of bringing this world to perfection. The end of the journey will be more beautiful than we can imagine, but we also hope that the trip to that place will be good in and of itself. May God bless you with an adventurous year filled with hope and the guiding and empowering presence of the Holy Spirit.
