The ACSI South-Central Region is pleased to announce the New REACH 2.0 Accreditation Training Program. There are several important changes that have been made to this training format. It is important to note that beginning in 2016-17 all schools seeking ACSI accreditation will be required to use the REACH 2.0 protocol. Please read this material carefully so that you will be attending the appropriate sessions designed to meet your needs.
REACH 2.0 has been very well done to benefit our schools. We believe it to be the best school improvement tool yet. It is a more efficient, yet thorough protocol. It will ultimately utilize an online platform to make it easier for schools and visiting teams to complete. Because of the significant differences, we are planning REACH 2.0 training for schools and for chairs/teams.
We are pleased to offer two days of training in the Kansas City area. We have a cap of 40 registrants for these trainings. We realize that this is short notice for some of you, but we had requests from many schools that were ready to begin the process in preparation for a team visit this spring and the following year. We will continue to offer training for chairs and schools in the future in both live and virtual formats.

Day one is for experienced chairs/team members and schools renewing accreditation. We will cover the changes in the new REACH 2.0 protocol as well as assist in understanding the details of the accreditation process. The REACH 2.0 Standards and Indicators (particularly the non-negotiables), new points of emphasis, the online platform, as well as some of the new accreditation tools will be presented with significant time for questions and answers.
Day two is for schools new to the accreditation process and less experienced chairs/team members who desire full training. Areas covered include the essential elements of the self-study process and the team visit process from both the school and the chair/team perspectives. Schools that are not presently in candidate status but are interested in eventually pursuing ACSI accreditation may also want to attend this training.
Professional development (PD) opportunities are nearly universal in the experiences of U.S. educators, both in public school settings and in Christian schools. The question of which PD strategies are most effective has become more critical in recent years, as schools face increasing internal and external pressures to improve student outcomes and optimize instructional expenditures. As a result, many school leaders are seeking to identify PD opportunities with high return on investment (ROI) in terms of student learning and achievement.
In an effort to address this issue systematically, a comprehensive literature synthesis was commissioned by ACSI (Swaner 2016). The synthesis, which surveyed over 500 scholarly articles and resources over the past 20 years, asked the question, “What are best practices in PD for Christian school teachers and leaders?” While little research was found specific to Christian education, what was available corroborated much of the broader literature on PD in K–12 schools. A set of characteristics of effective PD were identified in the literature, as well as a range of practices for which there exists research on their effectiveness. The synthesis also reviewed the evidence for the importance of cultures of continuous improvement to the effectiveness of any PD efforts.
