What is Young Authors & Illustrators?

Purpose: Young Authors and Illustrators teach students the developmental writing process and explore creative methods of illustrating a book. A local school event is held for grades 1-6 to determine the top three entries from each grade. Award placement is kept confidential and announced at the district awards assembly (no judging takes place at the district level). Books are judged on originality, language mechanics and expression, quality of writing, and Christian theme. Each book must be bound and illustrated. The illustrations must be original student work/design. The district event may offer workshops or seminars taught by authors and/or illustrators.

Grades: 1-6
