Eighth Grader Wins National Spelling Bee
Colorado Springs, Colo.—May 18, 2017—The Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) is pleased to announce that Owen Kovalik, an eighth grader at Medina Christian Academy (Medina, Ohio), won the 2017 ACSI National Spelling Bee. The event took place in Washington, D.C., May 6.
Kovalik, the son of Anthony and Julie Kovalik, was one of 42 fifth- through eighth-grade students who qualified from among 14,000 ACSI elementary and junior high students at district and regional competitions. Kovalik won an iPad and a gift card for his great accomplishment.
Medina Christian Academy is a pre-K-8 ACSI member school with about 205 students. The school serves a diverse student population from all over the Medina area.
This was ACSI's 29th national spelling bee.
