Getting You Ready to Go!
PFO 2019 prepares Christian educators and staff, boarding personnel, administrators, and their families for service in Christian international schools abroad. Participants who attend PFO 2019 will start their new assignment overseas with more confidence, transition more successfully, work with TCKs more effectively, and stay longer at their international schools.

Tracks will include training for teachers, boarding personnel, accompanying spouses, and more. Included is a fully complementary program for children and teens about to go overseas with their parents.
The PFO 2019 program will begin on the morning of Tuesday, June 25, and will end after the supper banquet on the evening of Wednesday, July 3. Participants should plan to arrive on Monday, June 24 between 9:00am and 8:00pm to settle into their housing. All participants will depart campus on Thursday, July 4th before 12:00pm.
Children's Curriculum and Staff
Getting You Ready to Go includes your children. While you are going through the PFO adult program, your children—nursery through high school—will be engaged in an exciting program of their own that is complementary to yours. Our skilled teachers, who all have international experience, will prepare your children for transition in age-appropriate, engaging, and fun ways.
Pricing includes room and board at the dorms at Houghton College and program fees. Families will be kept together in housing suitable for the family size. Singles will be assigned two to a double room. Does not include transportation fees from Buffalo-Niagara airport to Houghton College and back. Transportation fees are $40 per person, round trip. Bus times can be picked during the registration process.

Professional development (PD) opportunities are nearly universal in the experiences of U.S. educators, both in public school settings and in Christian schools. The question of which PD strategies are most effective has become more critical in recent years, as schools face increasing internal and external pressures to improve student outcomes and optimize instructional expenditures. As a result, many school leaders are seeking to identify PD opportunities with high return on investment (ROI) in terms of student learning and achievement.
In an effort to address this issue systematically, a comprehensive literature synthesis was commissioned by ACSI (Swaner 2016). The synthesis, which surveyed over 500 scholarly articles and resources over the past 20 years, asked the question, “What are best practices in PD for Christian school teachers and leaders?” While little research was found specific to Christian education, what was available corroborated much of the broader literature on PD in K–12 schools. A set of characteristics of effective PD were identified in the literature, as well as a range of practices for which there exists research on their effectiveness. The synthesis also reviewed the evidence for the importance of cultures of continuous improvement to the effectiveness of any PD efforts.
