Bob Hodges, former ACSI Certification Supervisor
As a teacher, you have a noble calling. You are called to be the source of inspiration and wisdom for students who might shape the lives of many people in the future. Yet it can be a calling in which you feel overwhelmed, lonely, and frustrated. Although you might feel alone, I assure you that there is a team of certification specialists whose desire is to make you successful as a teacher and to assist you in any way possible.
In keeping with that desire, we in the ACSI Certification Department have worked hard to make increasing information available to you at our Certification page. This part of the ACSI website contains several new additions. Besides certification instructions, teacher requirements, and all relevant documents available for downloading, we have recently added a complete list of continuing education unit providers and the certification review.
Through the certification review, you can access your current ACSI certification status online. You can find out what is required for your renewal and how long your certificate will be current. You can also update your personal file with a change of address or school and with any other information we would need to keep your file up-to-date.
You can use the certification review by selecting the Certification Review tab, which appears on the main certification page of the ACSI website. Then you can establish a personal log-in for your file. You must have a current e-mail address on file with the ACSI Certification Department in order for this link to work. If you are unable to set up your file because of not having an e-mail address on file, the program instructs you to contact the ACSI Certification Department to add that information. You may call the ACSI Certification Department at 719.528.1201
or email the department , and we will update your file with the e-mail address to give you access.
Once you have made your personal connection into the program, you have the ability to see up-to-the-minute changes in your file status. Teachers who recently submitted their applications for renewal were able to see their status change to “in process,” indicating that we had received and recorded their application. They could check the status over the next few days to determine when we had processed their application. Some saw their status change to “pending,” indicating we were waiting for information, or to “sent back,” meaning their application was not complete. If they found that their status was “current,” we had renewed their certificate.
We have received questions from those whose files do not show renewal requirements. This inability to access information usually indicates that the certificate in question had been issued prior to mid-October 2002 when we implemented our current computer system. As teachers renew, we will add their information to the certification review, and then they will be able to view their current status.
The certification review includes a dimension especially for administrators who want to check the status of all their staff members. This program component, called administrator access, allows administrators to view and print out a list of all ACSI-certified teachers in their school. If you are an administrator and do not have access to your school’s teacher list, contact the Certification Department so that we might assist you in becoming even more successful as an administrator.
The ACSI Certification Department welcomes your input. Your success is our desire and our goal.
