Teaching Tips: Child Sponsorship

Last Updated Dec 18, 2008

Creative Ideas for Your Classroom

  • Create a bulletin board. Display your sponsored student. Show the student’s personal information and a map of her country.
  • Include your sponsored student in your school’s enrollment count. Place an empty desk in your classroom. On the desk put your student’s photo, a flag of his country, personal biographical information, and any letters you have received. Students can sit at this desk to write or pray for their sponsored student.
  • Watch the news and read the newspaper for any information on your student’s country.
  • Research together the country and the culture of your sponsored student.
  • Watch videos or films or listen to tapes about your student’s country, culture, or music.
  • Pray for your student and his or her country.

A Circle of Love

Ask your students to bring two quarters each week. Stick the coins to a long, continuous piece of tape encircling the room. Make sure you can lock your room.

If you have 15 students in your class, at 4 weeks per month, you will collect $270 in 9 months. That’s only $66 short of a full year’s pledge amount. If they give more, you may even be able to sponsor a second student.

To help your finance department, make sure you take the quarters off the tape before giving them the money.

Making the Point with PowerPoint

Make sure to send copies of your pictures to your sponsored student so they know how much you care!

Work with your students to put together a PowerPoint presentation about your student. Take pictures in the classroom showing your students praying for the sponsored student. Include those pictures in your PowerPoint.

Invite families and friends to a special chapel service. Show your PowerPoint. ACSI will be happy to provide brochures to hand out to families interested in sponsoring a student.
