43.5 It has been said that hindsight is 20/20. As I look back over the details of my life, there were key periods of time when my faith grew by leaps and bounds. In fact, I would say that several of the “bad times” were really the “good times”! Let me explain.
43.4 In his timeless classic The Normal Christian Life, Watchman Nee, the great Chinese writer and preacher who spent the last twenty years of his life (1952–1972) imprisoned for his faith, asks his readers a provocative question: “What is the normal Christian life?”
43.3 My grandfather, Albert Zehr, was a farmer in central Illinois. I can remember my excitement as a small boy every time we visited my grandma and grandpa on the farm.
43.2 I pray the day will never come when Christian school educators and the parents who support them will be so illiterate of the Bible that they will not understand the Bible verses long associated with their school. That need not happen if they will keep Christ in clear focus and keep the Word of God at the center of every subject area and school activity.
43.1...public schools including all charter schools) may be “tuition free,” but they are most certainly not free! The sad truth is that parents in the United States who choose to send their children to private schools, including private Christian schools, must pay twice: taxes and tuition.
42.9 The facts are in, and research proves conclusively that school choice and vouchers in particular are a huge success.
42.8 The sum total of the daily decisions we make determines the direction of our lives. Often these decisions also influence the lives of countless others.
42.7 As I pen these words, Bonnie and I are completing a week
as representatives of ACSI in the Democratic Republic of the Congo(DRC), where we have just established our newest ACSI Global office.
42.6 As I write this edition of Christian School Comment, I am sitting in my favorite recliner by the fireplace in our family room and listening to Christmas music, with our dog, Mollie, by my side. In addition to the sound of Christmas music is the occasional sound of my wife, Bonnie, pounding nails into the wall in our study. We decided to update our family photo wall!
42.5 For the past few years, I have had the privilege of speaking at several commencements. I spoke on the topic of faithfulness to God. To catch the attention of the grads, I said, “Secular society today tells you that you can be anything you want to be. I am here to tell you that this is not true !”
