Whoever drinks of the water that I will give him shall never thirst; but the water that I will give him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life.”

–John 4:14

In the nearly twenty years of visits to the remote location of La Carpio, Costa Rica, Liberty Christian School (LCS) has booked their trips through Joshua Expeditions. Joshua Expeditions states that through their trips, “Students are able to share their faith in both word and deed, often leading them to consider missions as a life-long calling. Quite simply, tours through Joshua Expeditions are designed to ignite hearts and minds to change the world.”

In addition to helping with a vacation Bible school program for the church in La Carpio, LCS was able to add working at a daycare center to their plans this year, thanks to connections made through Joshua Expeditions. LCS students and staff members brought great joy and fun to the lives of the children (and received joy in return). They provided a safe place where parents could leave their youngsters and know they were well cared for. The children will often go home and share their experiences with their parents, which is one way that the truth and love of Christ spreads to families.

Over the course of time, mission trip participants from LCS have built indoor plumbing, created classroom space, painted interiors and exteriors, and ensured that the church is accessible to everyone by making important structural accommodations for the disabled. Despite the poor living conditions—the town is bordered by two polluted rivers and a landfill—the people of La Carpio are learning about the living water that God offers. They have come to understand the scripture found in John 4:14, “Whoever drinks of the water that I will give him shall never thirst;

but the water that I will give him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life.” Despite their circumstances, they understand how they are seen and valued by our Savior.

The LCS students and teachers worked hard during the week, and through Christ’s strength and led by the Holy Spirit, they were able to spread the gospel message by sharing God’s love with many. During the weekends, the LCS members enjoyed excursions and exposure to local fare brought about by the careful planning of Joshua Expeditions. Sandwiching their ministry time, the team explored the area and experienced the local culture. They enjoyed zip-lining, taking a catamaran to Tortuga Island, souvenir shopping, touring locally important businesses like the Ox Cart Factory and Coffee Plantations, and visiting the famous Paos Volcano.

We’re encouraged here at ACSI by the testimony of excellent schools like LCS and how beneficial their partnership with Joshua Expeditions has been. This is just one example of how seeds of the gospel message are being planted, even in the darkest corners of the globe, where hope might seem lost. We praise God that what was broken is becoming whole again.
